RICHARD S. FERRI, Ph.D., ANP, ACRN, FAAN
Richard received his Masters of Science in Primary Health Care Nursing, Adult Nurse Practitioner, from Simmons College and Ph.D. in Adult Education and Development from Columbia Pacific University, and a master of science in adult education and human resource development from Fordham University in New York. He is certified as specialist in AIDS care as an AIDS Certified Registered Nurse (ACRN) by the HIV/AIDS Nursing Certification Board (HANCB). He has served the elected positions of president and national director for the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC), HANCB. He maintains a practice in primary care in the areas of HIV/STD and hepatitis, and lends his expertise to continuing medical and nursing education program development, editing, writing and scripting for multi disciplinary audiences, workshops/seminars in these and other areas.
He has contributed to numerous text books and has written more than 75 articles in such journals as RN, Nursing Spectrum, the American Journal of Nursing, the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, and Advance for Nurse Practitioners. His writings have appeared in numerous other publications such as the Boston Globe, Cape Cod Times, Provincetown Banner, POZ, the Advocate, Lambda Literary Review, and HIV Plus magazine. He is a contributing writer for RN.com, and UndercoverMedicine.com. Richard was the managing editor of the HIV and hepatitis journals and Internet site NUMEDX.com. Richard can be heard on National Public Radio providing commentary.
He is also a member of the American Medical Writers Association and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association.
Richard was appointed by ANAC as a Distinguished Lecturer in HIV/AIDS. He is a clinical expert in HIV nursing for the International Council of Nurses, and is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. ANAC presented Richard with their Public Service Award in 1998, and in November of 2000 Richard was awarded the ANAC Lifetime achievement award for his contributions to AIDS care.
In addition to his clinical practice and writing Richard is an award winning novelist and fiction writer. He is also a certified personal trainer by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. He lives on Cape Cod with his partner Dr. Jim Lear.
